Do you need to file Schedule FA?
Schedule FA — the foreign asset disclosure — applies only if you are Resident and Ordinarily Resident. Non-Residents and RNORs don't file it at all, however large the foreign account.
This works out which one you are, from the day-count tests in Section 6. It runs in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere.
This covers the standard day-count tests. Edge cases exist — the deemed-resident rule for Indian citizens with over ₹15 lakh of non-foreign income who aren't taxable anywhere else (always RNOR), dual-residence treaty tie-breakers, and split years. If any of those might apply, confirm with your CA. The rules in full.
